This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.
Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.
Posting Guidelines
All posts should follow this basic structure:
- Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
- What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
- Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
- Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
- Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.
Rules
- Post only about bans or other sanctions that you have received from a mod or admin.
- Don’t use private communications to prove your point. We can’t verify them and they can be faked easily.
- Don’t deobfuscate mod names from the modlog with admin powers.
- Don’t harass mods or brigade comms. Don’t word your posts in a way that would trigger such harassment and brigades.
- Do not downvote posts if you think they deserved it. Use the comment votes (see below) for that.
- You can post about power trippin’ in any social media, not just lemmy. Feel free to post about reddit or a forum etc.
- If you are the accused PTB, while you are welcome to respond, please do so within the relevant post.
Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.
Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.
YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.
Some acronyms you might see.
- PTB - Power-Tripping Bastard: The commenter agrees with you this was a PTB mod.
- YDI - You Deserved It: The commenter thinks you deserved that mod action.
- YDM new - You Deserved More: The commenter thinks you got off too lightly.
- BPR - Bait-Provoked Reaction: That mod probably overreacted in charged situation, or due to being baited.
- CLM - Clueless Mod: The mod probably just doesn't understand how their software works.

There's a significant difference between those two comments that you are not addressing though. One is a direct/personal attack, the other is on a group of 'fans' in general. That comment does not directly address anyone in the thread and is worded to not directly attack anyone in the thread.
And for the record, she full on sobs 3 times in the series:
spoiler
When she was forced to kill someone she knew in the Mirror Universe, when her friend/crewmate died and when she had to say goodbye to her brother for what she knew would be the last time. She gets a bit teary eyed occasionally but she was a human raised to ignore all of her emotions and part of her story is literally embracing those emotions... you know... a core tenant of Star Trek philosophy? All due to insanely heavy emotional moments that any person would be upset at. Kirk cried at the death of his son. Picard had multiple breakdowns due to the trauma he endured. Sisko lost his shit repeatedly. But the second that it's a black woman, all bets are off and lies have to be made in abundance.
The rule as written doesn't say anything about the banter having to be civil only on an individual level.
Look, lemme cut to the chase here. You're playing rules lawyer with rules you wrote.
Saying "the other is on a group of fans in general" is sophistry at best. It's still a violation of the rules as you present them on a community you run. That means you absolutely can make up loopholes to them that only apply to you, without having to give anyone else the same latitude. But, it is hypocrisy, and it is PTB territory.
If I say, here, "you fuckwits that don't know what PTB really is", what it amounts to is me saying "anyone that disagrees with my PTB opinion is a fuckwit". While that's not an exact word for word replacement for the comment I linked, it's close enough for this. Pointing to a group and applying an insult to that group is exactly the same as insulting each individual.
I'll also say again, like I often have to when I forget I had stopped interacting in this C/ for a reason, I don't care about the original arguments. It's irrelevant for PTB purposes if a character cried or not, if Babbitt from some random sitcom shat on Greg in episode 9, or whatever. What matters for PTB is the behaviors of the people involved, in the thread/post/comment involved. You can be completely correct about the original subject and still be in the wrong as a user or mod.
Obviously, as a mod, you thought your decision was 100% appropriate. I even agree that the decision to remove OP's comments and issue a temp ban were acceptable. I'm also pointing out that you're giving yourself an exception to your own rules, and that doing so ain't cool. It's your C/, you can do what you want with it, just be aware that from this side of the screen, it reflects poorly on the community and the mod.
I think we've interacted enough for me to be confident you aren't a bad person, you don't mess with people for your own entertainment, you aren't a jerk randomly, so please take my comments here as being focused and in the spirit of a nudge and "dude, not cool" from someone that likes you.
