Cat's think we are wizards, just very incompetent ones.

I had a cat that would want to go out on a rainy day, so I'd open the back door and show him the rain. That wouldn't bother him at all, he'd just walk to the front door.

It wasn't until I opened the front door, and showed him it was raining our there, too, that he look dejected.

My grandfather's cat opened door, turned on the lights, opened the faucet and flushed the WC.

They see you changing channels on YOUR special window all the time

I wonder if it was weird for pets in houses when the TV got upgraded from CRT to LCD - now the flickery box that the humans stare at is thin and showing these flat moving pictures.

[–] HerbGrower@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 hour ago

Doesn't matter, the bird inside the now flat box must die!

Our cats watched TV often, and one day they were watching chipmunks on TV, and one of the critters ran off screen. One of our cats thought it had run into the bedroom door next to the TV, and spent the next two days hunting that chipmunk it thought was in the bedroom.

he's fairly certain I'm just not applying myself properly here.

Just look out at the night, then look at the cat. Yawn. Lick the back of your hand, smooth your hair down with it, and go take a nap. The cat will understand.

One winter day my cat led me to the door and demanded I open it. So I did, and it was cold and there was a couple of inches of snow on the ground. She put one paw in the snow and looked back like I was the ultimate betrayer. Her meow was clearly 'wrong outside, human' and she walked away (back into the house).

I loved visiting a friend's house and their cat was leaving their bedroom, meowed at me to follow him so I did, and he guided me downstairs to the food bowl. When he detected I was confused he then led me further to the cupboard where his kibble was kept, and waited for me to feed him. I did not feel like I had the power in that situation 😅 more like a barely competent servant

"My god, how dense is this human? FOOD! I WANT IT! IT'S THERE!"

*meow meow MEOW!*

A friend of mine went out of town and I helped take care of their cats. I realized when I went to feed them, that I didn't know where their food was. I was about to call my friend, but then realized I could just ask the cats. And sure enough, one of them led me directly to the closet with the food. Easy peasey

I'm terrible at understanding what my cat is communicating. She'll meow at me, wait for me, lead me somewhere and flop on her side so it's clearly a request but for what?

Exactly. Pet me in this location please. Lol

Our childhood cats always longed for the door to summer.

[–] jispal01@lemmy.world 35 points 16 hours ago

My dog does this. She knows that I can control the temperature inside. She knows I can control the wind (ceiling fan). She knows I can summon rain in some instances (showers).

Sometimes when it rains she acts like she wants a walk and we get suited up and I open the door and she stands there at the threshold and looks at me like I am dumb because I won't shut the rain down so we can walk.

It's bad enough that I'm a disappointment to my parents, but now you're positing that I'm a disappointment to my cat too? How much more do you think I can take?!

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 41 points 16 hours ago

I’ve got news for you. Your parents’ opinion does not matter one bit. It’s all about what the cat thinks of you. Hope that clarifies things and realigns your priorities 😊

I miss this so much. I would hop up from the couch and say “Yes my love! Show me your cat need!” And she would. 💖

[–] jupyter_rain@discuss.tchncs.de 37 points 18 hours ago

My cat luckily never did this. I was smacked, when he decided it was time for food, but he never wanted help. I think he perceived me as his hostage or something like that.

Good times, miss my little meany.

Consider this even moreso if you have a television in the house. "Silly cat, I can't bring the sun and birds back to the porch!" you say, and then turn on the magic window to a realm of sunshine and animals at any hour of the day.

[–] WanderingThoughts@europe.pub 15 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

My cat blames me for autumn and winter. She'll look at me like "Why did you turn summer off? I was enjoying that. Fix it!" She'll do that every year for some time when the weather turns cold and autumn rains starts.

[–] HerbGrower@slrpnk.net 1 points 1 hour ago

Mine is usually happy when the radiators turn on and sits there until summer is back.

[–] teslekova@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 hours ago

Well I'm annoyed when spring turns off. I think this cat has some good ideas!

[–] Broadfern@lemmy.world 20 points 17 hours ago

One of the outsides gets so mad at me when it rains. It’s not just that it happened and I can make it stop (?), it’s like it’s my fault specifically that it started.

The most ridiculous part is that she refuses to come inside despite our efforts. We’re trying!
