60 year old Canadian here...
One of our primary identities is that we are NOT American. Usually it's just a quiet thing. A "Yeah, we like you as friends but we aren't you" sort of thing.
Americans have been our friends, our allies, our brothers in arms, the people we help and are helped by when the other is in a jam.
Never before have I seen us come together like this in utter fury at the US. It isn't just the trade talks. It's the betrayal of a trust and friendship that went back generations. Three quarters of the country approves of what Carney has done.
Try to find 75% of the US united on any issue and you start to realize how big this is. Trump has destroyed America in the eyes of every one of its allies, and at this point Canada isn't feeling sorry about what happens to them anymore

It was Truman, and the reason was to continue war time intelligence gathering in peace time.
I don't see any reason to be particular suspicious about the original motivation for it.
The problem is that CIA has increased the political paranoia, and USA having the CIA has normalized similar intelligence agencies around the world.
But absolute I agree, that today CIA is very far from serving the majority of the population, but has become a part of the industrial complex and serving the interests of the 1%.
Or even better yet, how about we do what some of the other peops in the world are doing and saying Canada won’t deal with the US until the child rapist is gone or end of term and he is gone.

Carney is correct. The world should follow Canada's example and resist Trump.

Carney harshly condemned Trump in a speech in January at Davos - though he didn't use kindergarten language, so I think it mostly went by him.

I read the speech. It is essentially trying to pretend this is all something new. It is not. It contains zero self reflection and instead strokes the same bullshit sovereignty and nationalism that has lead us here. Essentially it is a speech that ignores Canada's part in the war on terror, participation in the MIC, and turning blind eye to human rights abuses.
He lays it out for his capitalist colleagues. They have lowered taxes and it is time to capitalize while they still can. It is just another version of having your cake and eating it to. If this is what leadership looks like then that is why the wealthy are getting richer and richer in Canada.
I do agree with a lot of what he said, but ultimately it just feels like a cop out over the most recent pissing match between wealthy elements in the US and Canada.

In a long social media post on Monday, Trump once again referred to Carney as “governor” – a jibe that is associated with his threats to annex Canada – and attacked Ford.
“Someone should get these clowns to “fall in line” or, the consequences for Canada will be far WORSE!” Trump threatened in his post.

If you like the idea and know someone with the brains and/or time and/or resources to make it a thing, pass it on.
That sounds like an interesting idea. I teach my kids French here in Okinawa, because I learned it as a kid growing up in Canada. I do it because it could provide opportunities for them in the future. It's also fun and a part of Canadian tradition that I wanted to keep even if they're growing up thousands of kilometres away. Now, I get to do it as a fuck you to the USA.
One thing about the site though...
Flip the language on your favorite show once in a while.
That needs to be fixed.
I'm sure that site is still new, but it would be nice if they provided resources where one could learn or teach French (free or paid) without relying on US platforms like Duolingo or Kindle books.
CBC has an app called Mauril! It’s free and govt funded!
For me, it only shows two images and a short text that doesn't say anything about what they're proposing. Only an intro.
