High scores are neat; but we all realize that's effectively just trainspotting, right? Popularity just means popularity, and laundering that out to some notion of good/effective/accurate/respected is neither good nor healthy ; right?

Still, grats on having a higher number.

I convinced a few of my friends to leave reddit and move onto to here. I'M DOING MY PART!

[–] Pratai@piefed.ca 6 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Defederated from .ml and watch those number go even higher.

[–] Ripley_Tripley@lemmus.org 2 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago) (1 children)

I can now say I've officially joined the .world party, after the craziness from my last post getting deleted, im officially done with them. i might even delete all my other post i did in .ml, those guys are fucking ridiculous for no reason.

[–] Pratai@piefed.ca 3 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

.world supports .ml, so…. There’s that.

[–] Ripley_Tripley@lemmus.org 1 points 1 hour ago

Even so, my interactions there are way better than .ml. ill take that anyday

[–] TheStaffmaster@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Can someone connected with Anonymous see if they can get some AI to do a Hugging Bear style DDoS attack on u/Spez? We should Ol' Yeller Reddit. It's for the best really.

Isn't the idea to decentralize?

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 6 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

No. The idea is to have the constant looming threat of decentralization to keep the centralized system in check.

[–] BooBees@fedinsfw.app 2 points 10 minutes ago

Mutually assured enshittification

[–] toothpaste_sandwich@thebrainbin.org 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

All those users are from different instances. That's decentralized.

If this community goes down or is otherwise not viable anymore, users can easily find another, similar community, while not having to switch to a different platform or instance or whatever themselves. That's how this is supposed to work.

Decentralization with different larger communities on different instances, with community members from all kinds of different instances, baby!

[–] Peppycito@sh.itjust.works 1 points 22 minutes ago

It only works if you can bring your block list with you. That's the only thing of value attached to my profile.

I came here after lemmy.ml said it was shutting down. Idk what happened a with that but world seemed stable enough to not have that problem

[–] TheStaffmaster@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago (2 children)

actual question: How is Lemmy.ml functionally different than Lemmy.world?

[–] cannedtuna@lemmy.world 3 points 50 minutes ago* (last edited 47 minutes ago)

.ml has a lot of pro-Russia, pro-China types and criticism of either country can lead to a quick ban.

Functionally, there is no difference. Both run the same software, tho the versions may slightly differ as the devs, who run .ml, push updates.

For a functionally different experience try Mbin/Kbin (I forget which is the current), or Piefed. Piefed is similar to Lemmy with some quality of life improvements. Kbin/Mbin is a cross between “tweet” style posts, “blog” style posts like tumblr, and Reddit type posts.

[–] Ripley_Tripley@lemmus.org 2 points 1 hour ago

From my experience, people in .world are way more open to positive discussion than .ml. Everything upsets .ml if you say the wrong thing or dont post the right way, to make them understand. Its to much fucking drama for no reason.

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 hour ago

.ml shutting down? That's the devs server unlikely it will shut down unless for maintenence

[–] ShutUpWesley@piefed.zip 3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

For real, do they want the Fediverse to turn into a shitshow like email?

[–] Eyekaytee@aussie.zone 3 points 2 hours ago (2 children)

it’s almost inevitable, no one cares about decentralisation

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Decentralized networks with large centralized communities is the best approach. You have to have that number of people to have interesting conversations and engagement.

But if all the users are spread out across several instances it becomes more resilient. If a large community/instance goes offline or there's a controversy then it can be migrated to a new instance

[–] semperverus@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago

It's good to have it as an option but most people are frustrated if they can't just go to one place that has tons of people.

See? Dozens of us! Dozens!

[–] CannonFodder@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Dozens of dozens of dozens of dozen

[–] ieightpi@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

I like being grouped in 12s lol

[–] Miisha@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Let's go Lemmy! It's nice to see this platform grow. Whether by taking in people from corpo social media platforms or just by people discovering that it's actually a safe neat little place to exist.
Keep the Lemmings coming please 💜

I'm a recent convert. Got banned by Reddit mods, like globally for an anti ICE comment. I called them brownshirts.

Still not as popular as it was 3 years ago 😂😂😂

[–] realitista@lemmus.org 7 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

I think by post volume it may be (which is a more important metric IMHO)

[–] kingofras@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

Only one that matters is MAU and that has been flatlining, and going down if you remove the nsfw influx. It’s really not going as well as it should: the internet is growing every day, and reddit, X, FB, and the others are all cozying up to fascism, and we’re struggling to show meaningful growth.
