I know Nolan's Batman is fascist propaganda, but I find it funny that Alfred told a whole story about a man robbing and throwing away the precious stones that the British (Alfred included) were gonna use to bribe his tribe leaders.

Then Alfred's whole conclusion was that man was simply doing it for no rhyme or reason, just to "watch the whole world burn". And also "oh, and we burned the forest down to catch him."

And Bruce doesn't even question it??

I talked to my mother recently. I told her I wouldn't be a Jehovah's Witness anymore. It wasn't so bad. It was probably the most important conversation I ever had in my life.

At some point she mentioned that I have an "overdeveloped sense of justice" (??) because (I think) I talk a lot about how the system affects individuals. Communist education is working, I suppose lol

"overdeveloped sense of justice"

I think that's called empathy for other people.

[–] 666@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 6 days ago

It's an actual concept used to justified lack of empathy. Closest I can compare it to is how your typical reactionary would variably feel some form of disgust or feel that the ideal is childish. An overdeveloped sense of justice, an over-active empathy, a social justice warrior; all of these things seen as "juvenile" as it seems the correct way to succeed in this world and this society is to be sociopathic. Now repeat that on a generational level magnified thousandfold throughout society.

Good on you for leaving the JW cult.

[–] MasterDeeLuke@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 6 days ago (6 children)

Oh no my protests turned violent! Violence is never the answer!

Except when it is the organized violence by the state in the form of police repression, poverty, denied healthcare, etc.

Or when it happens in countries whose governments we are trying to topple.

I pasted a copy of this topic to Feddit’s r/NativeAmerican subcommunity, but some reason people were downvoting it, and after three hours of no replies I simply deleted my topic.

I can hardly guess what was motivating the downvotes. Was my thread too lengthy? The La rendición de Granada thumbnail off-putting? The topic a tad too Eurocentric? Maybe I would have known if I left it up a little longer but I doubt it.

Though after looking through a few threads there (like this reaction to an artist who mistook Hawaiians for Native Americans) I think that maybe I shouldn’t have bothered them at all. It’s just too depressing for me — not that Native Americans have no reasons to be angry, but I can only handle so much negativity before it becomes unhealthy.

ETA: Oh, come to think of it, it might have had something to do with Miquel Barceló’s remark that ‘The destruction of the Indians, for its part, was always accidental’, which is misleading at best.

🫵 You WILL have hope, comrade.

Since it started that a family member of mine has cancer, there's this thing that keeps happening every so often, where myself or someone else in the family shares this fact with someone outside the family, whether it is a friend of a friend or a near stranger or what, and the conversation goes something like: "I'm sorry about that. I lost xyz family member to cancer." Sometimes more than one person who they lost.

It makes a kind of sense if I look into number of Yankees getting cancer, but here's the weird part of it: prior to this happening, I was rarely hearing about people getting cancer. I knew it was a thing, but it wasn't like I would regularly hear that someone has had it / lost someone to it. In one case for sure, it's a thing where the person simply never brought it up to me that they knew someone who battled cancer until I first brought it up to them that I knew someone battling cancer. I suppose it's not much of a conversation starter and some people can be big on medical privacy and all, but still. It's not like these are people who are unwilling to volunteer it when you bring up your instance of it happening first. My hypothesis so far is it has something to do with individualism, that people are viewing it as this largely private fight they're supposed to do alone with close family. But having seen what the day to day of that looks like, the caregiver people suddenly have to take on, it really puts into sharp relief the need for community that can relieve some of the burden and help people adjust; which goes for any kind of life hardship, not just cancer. The impression I'm getting is that people are generally taking it on with little help and are really struggling as a result.

Everyone gets it, just a matter of time. When I was 10 my best friend died of ut, one of my grandmas has it, my dad had it, last month my friends mom got to know she'd be lucky if she survived until christmas.

I am 100% certain my mom is gonna get it aswell she doesnt use sunscreen and her skin is so damaged.

I've been cancer adjacent off and on my whole life. School mates, extended family, immediate family, neighbors. Maybe there is something about socialized medicine that makes it people are more open about it? Maybe the inevitable financial strain in the states makes people want to hide it more?

[–] LeninZedong@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I am sorry to hear that your family member has cancer.

[–] amemorablename@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 6 days ago

Thanks. ❤️

Working 32 hours a week while taking ten credits is killing me. I only slept four hours after getting home from work so that I could get up early and do schoolwork. We're studying the musuculoskeletal system and the material is very dense.

I don't feel well but I don't know if I'm sick enough to justify calling in to work. I could just be exhausted.

[–] Cowbee@lemmygrad.ml 15 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Have a good week, comrades! Even when times get stressful, you can still bear through it as all problems can be.

As always, communism will win.

[–] sleepykitten@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Thank you so much for the study guide.

I think being the communist businessman on the commune would be pretty cool. "Our budget is the state and our quarterly target is whatever makes the proletariat happy, what about you, Sony rep?"

[–] Commiejones@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 5 days ago

“Our budget is the state and our quarterly target is whatever makes the proletariat happy,"

"but at what cost?"
