Can't wait to see what cabinet position he gets.

[–] clgoh@lemmy.ca 130 points 5 days ago (3 children)

He'll declare himself President in exile.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 101 points 5 days ago (12 children)

And the Untied States will invade Brazil to install him as president. I wish I was kidding and didn't see this as a real possibility

Brazil isn't Venezuela, much bigger, stronger institutions, stronger army etc. Never say never but you think Trump is eager on getting into another Iran war?

[–] seeeem@leminal.space 51 points 5 days ago (5 children)

Do you think Trump has the prefrontal cortex mass remaining for that level of critical thinking?

What other Brazilian would be able to fly here on a questionable passport (seeing as he was ordered to surrender it) with no clear plans to ever go back to Brazil? I promise if he was pregnant they would kick his ass back home after some torture.

What other Brazilian would be able to fly here on a questionable passport (seeing as he was ordered to surrender it) with no clear plans to ever go back to Brazil?

Perhaps his brother, Eduardo Bolsonaro, who has already been living in the US while facing an arrest warrant in Brazil.

[–] new_guy@lemmy.world 26 points 5 days ago

Don't forget about Alexandre Ramagem, former congressman and director of ABIN (Brazil's CIA)

They trapped Snowden in Russia and then called him a Russian spy by cancelling his passport, but this guy is fine I guess.

A Latin American illegally entering the US on a revoked passport? How much would you bet ICE would cuff him at the airport if he was anyone else?

One of the biggest indicators of whether a country is a fascist country is that other fascists flee to that country.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Eh. This is more an indication that Lulu, specifically, has learned his lessons from his first turn at the Presidency and isn't going to wait around for the Bolsonaros to organize a coup against him.

Look at Columbia or El Salvador or Ecuador or Chile. They all had a turn at Biden tier liberalism, let the fascism feaster under their watch, and then got flipped to reactionary dictatorships in the next cycle.

Lulu got jailed once. He came out stronger and smarter. He's too old to get shoved back into prison again.

Brazil showing the US how it's done. Trump should've been that scared after Jan 6.

[–] metermatic26@lemmy.world 93 points 5 days ago (10 children)

I miss the days when wanabe dictators would flee for Russia…

[–] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 22 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (5 children)

We've always collected them. The Shah, Batista, Santa Anna, the police chief who executed a prisoner in Saigon, President Thieu, that dumb woman who thought she would get put in power in Venezuela if she gave Trump her Nobel Peace prize.

We almost had Napoleon I too (that would have been pretty cool though)

Criminals used to flee America. Now we're importing them and giving them government jobs. I hate this timeline

Well, the US famously don't like immigrants, so I'm sure the fine boys from ICE will sort him out.

What?

What do you mean it doesn't matter because he's rich?

Well, that's an oddly unprincipled stance to take. So, perfectly good foreign nationals with low net worth will be incarcerated but literally the devil himself would not if he had wealth?

Yes I know who Elon Musk is..

[–] badgermurphy@lemmy.world 28 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Theyre not sending their best. Some are criminals, some are fascists.

More info from the similar Guardian article:

Bolsonaro allies told Metrópoles [news outlet] that he would land in Florida on Tuesday afternoon and planned to request political asylum. “The Donald Trump administration has been informed,” the website added.

A US state department spokesperson said Bolsonaro and his family would be granted visas “to allow them entry into the United States.”

Bolsonaro has had Italian citizenship since 2023 and reportedly possesses a passport from the European country.

Lula slammed what he called Bolsonaro’s “shameful” decision to flee. “This is what the family Bolsonaro are like. Brazil is their second homeland. Their first homeland is licking the boots of the US, as he’s become accustomed to doing,” he said at an event celebrating his 81st birthday in Brasília.

Oh great another fucking fascist we'll have to deal with.

[–] tirateimas@lemmy.pt 26 points 5 days ago

Where is ICE? Trump is right on this one, it is not one of their best.

[–] buzz86us@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

Did ICE go after him?

[–] Janx@piefed.social 40 points 5 days ago (1 children)

So... Trump's nominating him for a UN position as well, right?

It blows my mind just thinking this guy almost won the presidency of the second biggest country of the continent. Two days ago he was voting and lecturing about democracy.

Didn't Jair Bolsonaro also flee to the USA immediately after losing his election in 2022?

[–] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 22 points 5 days ago

And his other son is living in Texas avoiding prosecution in Brazil for the coup plot.

[–] carpelbridgesyndrome@sh.itjust.works 23 points 5 days ago (1 children)

He for some reason returned and is now in prison.

If Dems win in a landslide house and Senate I forsee Trump fleeing on his Saudi gifted plane to Saudi Arabia

[–] btsax@reddthat.com 16 points 5 days ago (5 children)

lol if dems win they'll shrug and let it all go so the country can "heal". Same thing happened after Watergate and Iran Contra. Rich people don't face consequences here

There was a lot of speculated jokes in Brazil that Flávio had his jet on standby while the votes were being counted, and that if he lost he would immediately fuck off to the US to be with his brother, who is already here, also avoiding arrest.

Not surprised if it's true, and of course he won't be sent back to Brazil under the current administration, he'll be Rubio's assistant or something probably
