Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

The apes then died from contracting modern diseases they had no immunity to, the diseases spread, and human ancestor populations were wiped out before humans could ever evolve.

The world then got a nice, long reprieve before the evolution of super-intelligent squid fifteen million years later.

Don't just gloss over the 3 million year Age of the Mantis People like that!

Squids never would have evolved superintelligence if the Mantises hadn't welcomed them onto the land and taught them how to catch hummingbirds.

[–] jollyrogue@lemmy.ml 1 points 20 hours ago

As it turns out, they were all puppets of the alien octopuses. Everything that has happened on Earth’s timeline, orchestrated by an octopus.

[–] Test_Tickles@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Unfortunately, squid Hitler was even worse and when the squids went back to solve that, they wiped themselves out and human history was reset. Except this time without calamari, which made everything just a slight touch worse.

squid Hitler

That is a movie I would gladly be disappointed by.

The apes then died from contracting modern diseases they had no immunity to

Would this go both ways? Would the modern humans also get sick from ancient microorganisms that they've never been exposed to in modern times?

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 5 points 1 day ago

No, we're all evolved with resistance to ancient diseases we already survived as a species. Usually, that's not 100%, but the general idea. Anything else that burned out would be relatively minor. Viruses would be relatively unsophisticated and easily handled by our immune systems.

It's why smallpox hit the Americas so hard, those people left and were isolated while smallpox ravaged the East. The Europeans, Africans, and Asians that came to the Americas were the ones descended from those that survived and could transmit smallpox.

Going to other way is the problem. If you time traveled 3000 years in the future, their version of COVID-5026 might be incredibly hard on you because you and your family didn't survive COVID-3083. Mutations that helped people survive the Black Death also are connected to Chron's disease. It's wild stuff.

But that depends on disease changing, so it's a slower things, like evolution.

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 14 points 1 day ago

Perhaps, but much less likely. Even this long after it, we still have traces of immunity to things that old. And a lot of our modern diseases are evolved from older ones, so resistance to the newer one can also help against the older version.

Still entirely possible that they get infected with something humans have lost immunity to, though.

So.................................................................................................................................................................................................. what's the name of it?

But this is the JPG about it.

If you have a time machine that lets you solve a problem in your timeline by going back in time to solve it, then you also eliminate the reason causing you to go back in time to solve it, which means that you aren't going to go back in time...

[–] bufalo1973@piefed.social 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

That's one possible option. The other is that going back in time and changing anything creates a new reality without destroying the one you come from. But since we can't go back in time we don't know if it's the multiverse or the only-one-timeline.

[–] bufalo1973@piefed.social 6 points 1 day ago (6 children)

Another option: go to the future, get a history book, go back and change the events to fix the problems before they exist. No paradox (except for the book... and maybe it would change like in BTTF2).

[–] CalypsoGirl@lemmy.today 8 points 1 day ago

The problem with future history books is that they're being whitewashed by ai. And past history books have already been whitewashed. Books don't always contain the entire truth.

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 5 points 1 day ago

Nah, something else will always come up that you'll feel will be worth going back to change. History will never be perfect. You'll either do this until you die, or until something changes history enough that the time machine never gets invented and Hitler comes back. 0% chance of success.

In the next panel, the monkeys rip them apart limb from limb.

[–] Wirlocke@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The apes settle their differences and none of them are forced out of the jungle into the plains.

And BAM, humans no longer exist.

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Unfortunately just killing Hitler doesn't solve the reason why Hitler came into power and some other charismatic leader would come along and do pretty simolar stuff as him.

We would need to kill the people responsible for the market crash and great depression and responsible for saddling Germany with the entirety of the war debts of WW1.

[–] mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

While there were forces and social currents that led to upheaval in interwar Germany, Hitler as an individual is still ma major factor into how things played out. You can't ignore the fact that Germany's government was molded into a cult of personality that was beholden to his whims, and swapping Hitler out for someone else would have had very different results.

If Hitler ended up being one of the Nazis killed in the Beerhall Putsch (which was very likely) one of the other factions in the party could have taken over.

The original members of the Nazi party were actually socialists (hence the name), they were just overshadowed by Hitler and his people early on. But the Beerhall Putsch was early enough that they could have retaken control, though they wouldn't have heen nearly as relevant in politics.

Alternatively, Erst RΓΆhm could have taken over the Nazi party as the de facto leader of the SA (the militant arm of the party).

Much of the point of the point of the Night of Long Knives was to eliminate potential rivals to Hitler within the party so that only Hitler loyalists remained. But if Hitler was dead the struggle of power would have been very different. While Germany wasn't a haven for Jews, for a while they weren't particularly worse than any other country. The focus on anti-semitism was mostly pushed by Hitler and tolerated by the other factions.

[–] blackbelt352@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

If Hitler was dead, It definitely would have looked different, but I don't think it would have been meaningfully different. A population stuck in the throes of economic devastation are primed to find any scapegoat that is the cause of their problems, maybe the Jews wouldn't end up being the main target, but... well... the Jews weren't the only ones in Nazi concentration camps. The gold stars weren't the only forced identifiers, the pink triangles existed too. Hell we've seen in the American decline into fascism that the Hispanic migrants are the scapegoat this time around but that hasn't stopped so many other people from getting caught up by Trump's thugs.

Molding the cult of personality around the glorious leader likely would have happened anyway regardless of who was the charismatic leader, that's just how these types of fascist movements work.

Oh well, sorry Napoleon. The Directory wasn't perfect, but it didn't try to conquer half of Europe.

It would get rid of the majority of losers who have to pretend the colour of their skin is important because they have literally nothing else to add to society.

[–] nialv7@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

and poof! human have never existed, chimps live happily ever after

[–] flango@lemmy.eco.br 6 points 1 day ago

damn that guy's brain is just hanging out like that?

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Didn't Hitler and his father both individually sleep with relatives who ended up killing themselves?
