I've cancelled my subscription yesterday, conveniently it was about to renew at the end of the week, so I have a few days to migrate from Proton, here's what I'm thinking of, but I'd love to hear what other people are switching to

I never took him for a Claude evangelist.

He is more of a ChatGPT witchdoctor.

I'm tired of keeping a book of grudges everytime a CEO says something. I'll be waiting for now.

[–] senseamidmadness@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 36 minutes ago

For real. A CEO is a figurehead and can be removed at any time

[–] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Like, it's my business email, it's on my cards and my site and pretty much everything else related to the business. Just change all that!?

[–] teoman@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 1 hour ago

For the future, it might be worth buying your own domain. Besides looking cool, switching providers is as simple as changing your MX records.

Apparently Gmail and proton mail block PeerTube account registration emails. I have been trying for weeks to get a PeerTube account… anyone know an email service that allows PeerTube registration emails?

[–] wingnut@lemmy.zip 1 points 26 minutes ago

I had luck with tutamail

CEO funds right-wing "re-migrate" party in Sweden.

[–] FoxAlive@lemmy.zip 3 points 41 minutes ago (2 children)

Please someone provide me a alternative that has been proven by being raided, has no account system, and let's you pay by mail and crypto.

I don't want to use mullvad VPN but as far as I can tell I'm stuck here.

Ty will look into it

[–] Clark@lemmy.ml 1 points 29 minutes ago

You could use Nymvpn. They can't log it even if they want to thanks to the decentralyzed architecture

[–] fluckx@lemmy.world 3 points 45 minutes ago

Didn't the mullvad owner donante a ton of money to an extreme right party in Sweden? Or was that the tuta guy?

my keepass database has never once been hacked.

looking at you, every online password manager service.

[–] Shortstack@reddthat.com 31 points 3 hours ago (3 children)

Bitwarden is pivoting towards the same enshittification path as everything else, so that’s not gonna be a good long term for a password manager. They hired a new ceo whose only noteworthy experience is prepping companies for mergers and acquisitions, and briefly removed messaging on their website about always having a free tier which they reinstated after backlash. All signs point to a sinking ship, imo.

I don’t have the answer for what to use instead since I’m still a paid subscriber with them, but I’m looking around. Probably keepassxc but I don’t know enough to host and sync my own.

[–] freddo@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Vaultwarden is a great alternative.

[–] Guiorgy@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

However, Vaultwarden only implements the webvault, the client apps are still only supplied by Bitwarden, which they could make incompatible with Vaultwarden at some point.

[–] freddo@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 minute ago

Indeed, and I do not like that I have to have another repository just for the bitwarden app.

I am not really worried though. If they completely fuck up, a fork of the app will be a matter of seconds.

[–] anewfox@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 hour ago

write a bash script that rsyncs your keepass database to your other devices and run it once in a while. i have seen way too many online password vaults get hacked to ever bother with them.

[–] AHemlocksLie@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 hour ago

I don't think Keepass does syncing. I just leave the database in my Nextcloud sync folder on my desktop, and I can always pull the latest version to my phone. It'd be a bit more annoying if I routinely added new entries from my phone since Android won't let the NC app maintain bidirectional sync, but I pretty much always do it from my desktop, so the workflow is fine for me personally. If you do it on your phone, you can upload the changed version, but I think you'd have to do it manually, so not a great flow, but if it's a rarity, not too big a deal to me.

O.o They allowed meetings without registration again? That's nice!

Last time I checked (long time ago), they reguired an account for a meeting, however their platform didn't support registrations... which made no sense.

It is. I just made the switch last year and spent forever making hide-my-e-mail adresses for every service , web page and online store I had subscribed to. My Proton subscription just renewed so I guess I’ll wait another 11 months to see how this pans out before I make a decision.

[–] ChogChog@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

I started with those, but then thankfully quickly realized it’s a great form of vendor lock.

It’ll still be a pain to migrate, but at least not AS bad as it could have been.

[–] ghen@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 hours ago

Don't worry, it'll keep going. There are so few exceptions to multi-product companies becoming shit in the long term

[–] inlandempire@jlai.lu 9 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

I've been using it for about a year for random stuff but weirdly i do not enjoy the ux

[–] NGC2346@sh.itjust.works 1 points 19 minutes ago

Their interface is dog shit and although i use Tuta, i dont want to migrate there because its so unintuitive to use and just feels clanky

[–] mp3@lemmy.ca 11 points 3 hours ago

I don't know if I'd still suggest Bitwarden with the dual-licensing drama from not too long ago and the new CEO.

Walt.is seems to be a promising wallet alternative even if you use a degoogled device.

Thanks for that. I've moved to mailbox to, i've bought a domain and i use addy.io for aliases. I've also choosen KeepassXC to replace proton pass and i use Syncthing to keep the data of keepassxc up to date between my PC and my phone. And i think i will self host for the drive soon (waiting for black weeks to try to but a beelink s12 pro cheaper). For A2F : Aegis. Everything runs well on my Graphene OS phone. Do we really need vpn while we can use good DNS settings ?
