I don't know which is worse. That he is a twat, or that Google think their renaming something on their maps actually means anything (as he obviously does).

Trump told supporters at Wednesday's rally in South Carolina that he asked Google CEO Sundar Pichai to suggest renaming either the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean the “Trump Ocean,” but was told it could not because oceans span numerous countries.

Unlike gulfes or lakes.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 hour ago

Yeah, but that's just Mexico and Canada, and who cares about them?? /s

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 7 points 1 hour ago

I don't hate many people.

But I absolutely hate this motherfucker.

[–] core@leminal.space 41 points 2 hours ago

Google says they can't do it because it borders multiple countries. Didn't stop them from changing the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario.

[–] biggerbogboy@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

I hope The Onion doesn't go bankrupt because of Trump, since they can't even get a satirical article made because everything real is currently on the level of satire

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Oh that's nothing. Wait until he "renames" earth to "trump" or some dumbass shit.

[–] jtrek@startrek.website 1 points 1 hour ago

There are far too many people who would enthusiastically go along with that.

There's something wrong with a lot of people where they just really want to submit to the group and its authority figure.

[–] modernangel@sh.itjust.works 17 points 3 hours ago

pedo troll say what

[–] My_IFAKs___gone@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago

Sometimes the smarter move is to continue giving a fool the rope he's asking for...

In this case, I think Google should absolutely humor him, but say an EO is needed to make it happen.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 67 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

He just keeps escalating demands until he's stopped.

[–] emmy5482@quokk.au 10 points 3 hours ago

Sounds like the behaviour of a very public rapist

[–] tal@lemmy.today 19 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

If you read the article text, he's telling people at a rally that he asked Google's CEO to do it and they said no.

Now, I'd take anything Trump says about deals and interactions with anyone else with a large grain of salt, as he's pretty flagrantly lied in the past, but even if taken at face value, he's saying that his request didn't go through.

[–] glitch1985@lemmy.world 6 points 3 hours ago

First he asks, then he posts on social media and then makes an executive order.

[–] BaraCoded@literature.cafe 9 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

And he still hasn't been introduced to a guillotine?

[–] fogelmensch@lemmy.world 5 points 2 hours ago (1 children)
[–] iknewitwhenisawit@fedinsfw.app 2 points 2 hours ago

"I thought you meant Trump Poutine! A delicious snack, some people are calling it the best...". <Ssshhbbb chonk! Roll...>

[–] RedGreenBlue@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (1 children)

Next he will rename China to America 2.

[–] Viceversa@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago

I'd propose "mainland Taiwan"

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

No more "America". No more "Freedom". Now it is all "trump" all the time!

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 hour ago

I'm typing this from my trump phone on my trump mattress using my trump internet connection from the city trump, state trump.

Keeping up with me?

[–] warbond@lemmy.world 17 points 4 hours ago

"The Atlantic borders other countries"???

And the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario don't...?

[–] architect@thelemmy.club 1 points 2 hours ago

Renaming something on one of the most popular globes in the world IS effectively renaming it and the fact some of you think God is naming things and can’t be undermined is a real problem in your thinking.

[–] UnexpectedBehavior@lemmy.world 20 points 5 hours ago (3 children)

I think we should name way more things after him: The Donald J. Trump Dump and the Donald J. Trump-Chicken Farm. Trump-Diarrhea though this might also be the Robert F. Kennedy Diarrhea. A Ship being hit with a mine shall be known as a Trump-Maneuver. Going bankrupt is just "Trumping".

[–] GMac@feddit.org 10 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

'Trumping' already means 'breaking wind' in the uk.

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 hours ago

For real? If so, DAMN.

Look the UK has its flaws but they are on point with this.

[–] BenjiRenji@feddit.org 13 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Still don't understand why it's called the Iran War and not the Trump war.

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 13 points 4 hours ago

So as not to distract from the Trump Files.

[–] Zron@lemmy.world 5 points 4 hours ago

I think he should get one thing named after him.

A solitary confinement cell at USP Marion can be renamed the Trump Pit.

[–] abbiistabbii@piefed.blahaj.zone 6 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago) (2 children)

You know, renaming random things is something obscure dictators do, only Trump isn't renaming cities or months, he's renaming oceans and seas.

How long until Trump renames Washington DC to "Trump"?

[–] baronvonj@piefed.social 2 points 1 hour ago

surely he would rename it to District of Trump. Washington, DT.

[–] Magister@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

I'm pretty sure he does not know what the C is in DC or he would have renamed it already to A(merica)

[–] whyNotSquirrel@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 hours ago

I had to look it up, "District of Columbia", I just thought it was "District City", like New York City but with district for some reasons.... yeah...

[–] grue@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

Trump doesn't like DAs, though.

[–] Gladaed@feddit.org 23 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (2 children)

Newsweek isn't a reliable source, in particular not as a single source. Be wary.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/oct/22/trump-atlantic-ocean-rename-google

[–] Mihies@programming.dev 14 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

Reliable or not, the Orange himself bragged about it few days ago

[–] cecilkorik@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 hour ago

I would argue he is also very much not a reliable source, but your point is taken, and in today's world it's becoming increasingly difficult to know what a reliable source even means.

[–] Gladaed@feddit.org 19 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

... I am yelling at people to do their due diligence, not doubt fact.

Using outlets that report non factually when they do will build trust for when they misinform.

[–] zip@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

Good on you for being aware of and caring about such things and for spreading the word about it! Keep fightin' the good fight! :)

When Google and Apple immediately rolled over on command and changed the last two names (Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario) they had to know this would only encourage him and lead to things like this.

[–] Quacksalber@sh.itjust.works 17 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

That's what you get for bowing to trump on Lake Ontario and the Mexican Golf. The orange turd will assume he can ask you to do anything for him.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 6 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Damn, I didn't know Mexico had its own kind of golf.

[–] lividweasel@lemmy.world 2 points 27 minutes ago

The game is played exactly the same, it’s just that the grass of the golf course is sepia-coloured rather than green.

[–] frunch@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

Toddler-in-Chief

[–] newton@piefed.social 10 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

We call it the EPSTEIN OCEAN ,deep and dark

[–] cecilkorik@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 hour ago

Also the probable location of the Epstein files when they are "released".

[–] vane@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Why not rename Earth to Trump ?

[–] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

Instead of Ohio?
