“I felt like, being in conservative politics, there would be more, like, masculine men in the conservative movement,” Housley says, “and I find that a lot of them aren’t as masculine as I would have hoped.”

I've been reading this exact same article, practically word-for-word, since the Reagan Era. Yet there never seems to be a shortage of married Republicans. Hell, some of them are on their third or fourth round of marriage. Similarly, I've been reading the "Liberals are a turn-off. I need a real man's man! The only boy who gets with this Hot Trad is a Based Chad!" article for my entire adult life. Nobody can explain where all the married liberals are coming from, either. It's almost as though these articles are just slamming Sex and Politics into a single headline and hoping people click the link.

But I also see something more insidious. I'm reading wave after wave of "dating is a scam / the opposite sexes simply aren't compatible" rhetoric, often subtly paired with "Exciting New Digital Fuckdoll!" native ads and associated articles. Very reminescent of the '10s-era "Give up meeting people on your own, get the App!", '00s-era "Give up on meeting people on your own, buy Speed Dating", and '90s-era "You'll never find an American partner who will treat you with the subservience of a mail-order bride!"

Wake up, Sheeple! Quit being seduced by this Marketing Slop! You're just being commodified. Again.

not me, i met my wife the old fashioned way, and now i get to give her a liberal amount of my penis every day!

Donald trump is their leader, not surprised they're morons but c'mon. Every man these conservatives look up to wears makeup for a living.

No value judgement on makeup but for people that allege to value "traditional" notions of masclinity its so funny they can't see what's in front of their face.

Also "ammosexuals" is not getting enough traction in those replies.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 19 points 9 hours ago

Yes, this is why abortion bans don't have exceptions for rape or incest.

Republicans know they can't pass on their genes any other way.

[–] aceshigh@lemmy.world 16 points 10 hours ago

Insecurity is the driving force for maga - insecurity of being left behind, insecurity of their role in the world, insecurity of being irrelevant. You can’t be masculine and constantly projecting yourself onto others.

[–] 5in1k@lemmy.zip 14 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I think I’m fairly masculine, big dude who enjoys being strong, I like outdoor activities like hunting, fishing, hiking. I really like working with my hands.

I’m left as fuck.

Most dudes I run into I would consider weak and the ones who are “masculine” pretty much just watch a ton of sports but are otherwise effete.

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 19 points 10 hours ago

The problem is, masculinity has been turned into a performative art these days. To the culture obsessed with masculinity, you have to fall in line, wear the clothes, support the right people…. What they don’t get is that this is the least masculine behavior possible.

Seriously, look at the “masculine” types, they all are groomed, their trucks are all spotless, they go to work and sit in the same chairs as the rest of us; but think their fascist adjacent clothing makes them look tough. I see nothing but insecure manchildren.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 5 points 8 hours ago

Unfuckable.

Thanks, autocorrect:

[–] Manjushri@piefed.social 10 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Rather than dealing with all that mess, many conservatives just choose to date among themselves.

This. This right here is where history will tell us that we started to breed the Morlocks.

Morlocks were described as being pallid white skinned, flaxen haired, chinless, knuckle-dragging weaklings that preyed on those smaller and more vulnerable than themselves. Damn man, throw a red hat on them, and you're absolutely right.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 9 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

At their core, Conservatives are cowards. They are afraid of EVERYTHING: Liberals, minorities, women, women's genitals, other religions, poor people, other countries, technology, education, intelligence, Critical Thinking Skills, the Constitution, history, etc. They are even afraid of each other. They are terrified that anything will change, and they're lives won't be as comfortable as they are now. They are so scared about that, that they will literally murder entire demographic sectors, just to assure their personal comfort.

So right off the bat, if you are dating a Conservative, you are dating a profound coward. If trouble occurs, he's going to grab you, and use you as a human shield.

[–] comeonitsnotlike@feddit.nu 5 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

They're also the laziest creatures walking on this earth; learn something? No thanks, they say, that takes effort, let's just hate everything instead. Never fuck conservatives and never leave your children alone with one.

[–] ReverendIrreverence@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

learn something? No thanks

That's the quickest route to becoming "woke" so we can't have that and still be in the club.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 5 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago) (1 children)

PedoCons. There's a sociological concept that the rise and success of the Conservative movement has been significantly (and deliberately) driven by being the party that covers for pedophilia. ALL pedophiles choose the Conservative party because they know they'll cover for them, and the conservatives want them because they are easy to manipulate.

All MAGAs are pedophiles, or support and defend pedophiles, which is the same thing.

[–] comeonitsnotlike@feddit.nu 4 points 8 hours ago

Yup. They're pedophiles.

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 8 points 10 hours ago

Got bad news for you sweetie, they're all on Grindr.

[–] BilboBargains@lemmy.world 5 points 10 hours ago

They are probably holding two partially contradictory concepts of masculinity in mind and trying to find the tiny population of men that exist in that intersection.

They are seeking a warm and considerate racist or a strong weak man. Good luck with that.

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 17 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

A guy who is actually confident doesn't need to make a big thing about it.

[–] jerkface@lemmy.ca 9 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

A person whose thoughts are concerned with being masculine is inherently insecure.

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 50 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

This is the funniest article I’ve seen in a while.

“I’m doing everything I can to make the nation a less tolerant, more hateful place. Why can’t I find love?”

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 15 points 10 hours ago

Reminds me of an article from a few years back, alt-right women complaining that men in the alt-right scene are too sexist

[–] Jessica@discuss.tchncs.de 11 points 15 hours ago

Why is it literally fucking impossible for news publications to make the distinction between Washington and Washington DC in the headline? This one is about Washington DC

[–] Tedesche@lemmy.world 33 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I have no sympathy and don’t even agree this is a problem. Bible-thumping conservative, Evangelical Christians have been here since the founding of this country and they have always found a way to restock their ranks of indoctrinated children throughout the generations. In my opinion, they’re a cancer in society, and I see no end to their presence in the near future. Even if this particular woman never finds a husband she can accept, enough like her will, and they will produce another generation of bigoted youngsters, intent on anchoring this country in their naïve, idealized, theocratic vision of the past.

I wish I could say they’re being left behind by more modern, sensible people, but the truth of the matter is that they’re succeeding at holding the rest of us back with their antiquated, bigoted ways.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 9 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Mostly agree, however:

they have always found a way to restock their ranks of indoctrinated children throughout the generations.

This does not seem to be the case in Washington:

Newly arrived MAGA singles face a percentage problem: 92.5 percent of the city voted for Kamala Harris in last year’s presidential election.

“Before 2016, I did not even have a question on my intake form about politics,” says Michelle Jacoby, founder of DC Matchmaking and a dating coach. “It was just a nonissue.” Where a person might’ve wanted to appear more moderate in the past, they wear their beliefs on their sleeves now.

Earlier this year, during the DOGE days, Trombetti (CEO of Exclusive Matchmaking) says, one liberal man asked her not to pair him with any Tesla drivers. Liberal women whom she would typically call “wallflowers” — open to dating anyone — were now against any Republicans.

Most conservatives we talked to for this article said they would be willing to date someone whose politics aren’t perfectly aligned with the conservative movement, but that comes with some caveats. “There’s a lot of (..) people on the left calling people on the right ‘fascists’ and ‘Nazis,’” said a 27-year-old Republican staffer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because her employer did not allow her to speak to the press. “I think if somebody genuinely thought that, they probably wouldn’t want to date me anyways, but like, that’s a red flag, because then you think that I’m that, which I’m not, whatsoever, and never will be. But I mean, my partner can’t think I’m a fascist. That’s crazy.”

Rather than dealing with all that mess, many conservatives just choose to date among themselves.

Like a small college in a larger city, the new conservative dating scene is insular but active. (..) Debono, a political consultant, has been hosting “Make America Hot Again” mixers for conservatives in New York. In Washington, the scene as MAGA returned to power was rowdier. And — surprise! — supplying a bunch of young people with limitless booze didn’t necessarily yield wholesome, chaste courtships.

But some conservative women are looking for more than all that. (..) Taylor Hathorn, a 33-year-old defense contractor and political commentator who lives in Alexandria, Virginia, has been on some 50 dates in the past six years, looking for a good conservative Christian man to no avail. Hathorn says she has tried to date with noble intentions. She (..) wants to get to know the person she’s out with. She tries to ask thoughtful but revealing questions: Where does he go to church? What is he reading?

Republicans seem to have manoevered themselves into a no-win situation wrt dating and procreation.

[–] LordMayor@piefed.social 5 points 10 hours ago

They only have problems in Washington DC and, probably, other left-leaning cities. This isn’t a problem for conservatives everywhere.

Hell, I bet someone starts a service to match the DC conservatives with people from Texas or Florida. Mail order dates within the USA.

[–] TheCriticalMember@aussie.zone 38 points 19 hours ago (4 children)

Any man who considers trump an alpha has no idea what an alpha male is.

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 3 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

alpha male

Too buggy, better to wait for the official release

[–] LordMayor@piefed.social 9 points 9 hours ago

Conservatives have a thing for “early access,” though.

[–] favoredponcho@lemmy.zip 40 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (1 children)

Alpha is a made up term based on a retracted theory of wolf behavior.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 5 points 9 hours ago

Yeah, and it’s stupid and problematic. That being said, you know what the person you’re replying to was trying to say, right?

[–] thespcicifcocean@lemmy.world 19 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

Alphas are so weak that they can easily be stopped by something as thin as a piece of paper. I'm a gamma, I only can be stopped by several inches of concrete or some lead.

I like traumatizing them by assuming they're deep into Omegaverse/ABO Fics. They get big mad.

[–] sundray@lemmus.org 10 points 17 hours ago

Gamma? Ew, so short! /s

If you’re looking for cowards, you should look at conservatives. That’s their defining characteristic.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 14 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

Article: https://www.washingtonpost.com/style/power/2025/10/28/maga-dating-scene-washington/
Archived: https://archive.ph/VY8Tu

Instead, many of the single MAGA men she’s seen are … “Not fit, workaholics and not taking finding a wife seriously,” Housley says.

If she had it her way, she would be married and expecting her first kid. She says a lot of her colleagues at the American Principles Project, a conservative advocacy group whose website says “in order to save America — we have to save the family,” are settling down and having children. But it’s rough out there.

Newly arrived MAGA singles face a percentage problem: 92.5 percent of the city voted for Kamala Harris in last year’s presidential election.

A perfect moment of discovering the discrepancy between MAGA ideology on "paper" and in reality.

The article is a fun read.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 3 points 11 hours ago

Even MAGAs have student loans, and they are a major reason that people are avoiding marriage. Nobody wants to get married and double their student loan debt.

Worse, what if you didn't have student loan debt, and you were considering marrying someone with tens of thousands of student loan debt. Would you still marry them, and make that debt yours? Or maybe just live together, and not officially take on that debt?

Never fuck a MAGAt.

[–] Tronn4@lemmy.world 33 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

They should fuck themselves

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 4 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

This isn't a bad idea. Rent a venue and charge like $15 per person and call it a MAGA Singles Social. Spread it on Facebook and rake in the cash.

Then let all the incels and divorced dads gather. Should be like 90% plus men

Natural selection in action. Turns out, when you're proposing to chlorinate the gene pool, you'd best make sure other people don't go: "Okay! Let's start at your end - it's fucking filthy."

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 21 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Generally Maga toads are dressing up their profiles to look politically ambiguous because they know being authentic gets them ignored by almost all of the dating pool. Just look for dudes who take pictures in sunglasses in their car and pose with fish.

[–] damnedfurry@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

only MAGA pose with their fishing catches

No.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 9 points 16 hours ago

Oh, how surprising! It is actually hard to find a decent partner when your focus group consists of professional assholes...

[–] db2@lemmy.world 33 points 21 hours ago (12 children)

They're mostly closeted gay men hung like gerbils.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 31 points 21 hours ago (4 children)

Thats an insult to gerbils.

since you obviously aren't deep into the lore:
