Because it's not using hot steam, but vapor, it's more like sweating.

The heat exchangers are sprayed with misted water, which evaporates and takes away heat. But the resulting vapor is still only slightly above ambient temperature and can't be reasonably condensated.

I really wonder what's going on in the editors minds here.

The entire premise of the article is "All experts say no, but I think yes" - why would anyone about any topic publish this? If it would be an actual debate, maybe some contrarian but actual experts arguing in favor of sentience, you could get into an argument here. But this article is blatant science denial. Climate change deniers and antivaxxers use the exact same approach "facts say X, but my feelings say Y".

And you really think "the elites" are the ones buying and selling here?

Yes, they have a lot of wealth in stocks, but usually they simply own a large chunk of their (or their parents) company and the rest is managed by a fund manager. And if you have millions or billions, you don't need to think quarter to quarter.

One part is a reverse game of chicken, buy the dippest dip to realize most profit from less dippy dip buyers.

The other part is the assumption that this means the tariffs will never actually come or at least in a much relaxed form.

I mean, "safest" is a superlative, not a positive. It's perfectly possible that all other pipelines ruptured three times or more.

Hey, that's not fair! Most of them were not killed, but only mutilated too much to be ableish-bodied enough for the russian army!

(Serious note: this is the casuality number, that includes deaths, but also soldiers with wounds that put them out of service, like lost legs)

Trump used to be rather transactional, though.

It's an evil logic, but there was an internal logic behind what he did in his first term. He bullied you into submission, and agreed to a deal if he thought it benefits him (him, not the USA).

Now, he's just on full autodestruct. There's zero logic behind it. Not even chaotic franticness like before, just erratic randomness.

Thing is, it doesn't replace workers. And it won't for the foreseeable future. Even Microsoft itself had to admit that their studies show AI assisted coding to be bad and making developers worse.

There is hardly any market where these systems can reasonably compete with exploited humans. It's just that the tech bros have nothing left to invest in. The same idiots that pushed crypto, NFTs and the Metaverse are now pushing for AI. There is hardly any innovation anymore, so the only ways to make line go up are rent seeking and investing in bubbles in the desperate attempt, that something might stick.

Reality is, they will just rebrand employees.

You're not a developer anymore, but a customer satisfaction consultant. Same job as before, but technically not a developer!!

Also, this is a great way to reduce headcount while seeming innovative to the market ghouls.

All this gate keeping is bullshit, but I do have to agree that we are really bad at actually engineering.
