While other Auckland areas saw turnout drop, voting numbers in Papatoetoe increased by more than 7 percent. All four seats went to first-time candidates from the Papatoetoe Ōtara Action Team. The result was inconsistent with historic voting patterns. None of the previous local board members of the Papatoetoe subdivision were re-elected.

Sketchy! Who are these guys?? https://www.facebook.com/papatoetoeotaraactionteam/

Proposal is part of new package of security guarantees, backed by the White House, that could mark breakthrough in reaching agreement

Europe is ready to lead a “multinational force” in Ukraine as part of a US proposal for a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine, European leaders have said.

In a statement, the leaders of the UK, France, Germany and eight other European countries said troops from a “coalition of the willing” with US support could “assist in the regeneration of Ukraine’s forces, in securing Ukraine’s skies, and in supporting safer seas, including through operating inside Ukraine”.

The proposal was part of a new package of security guarantees, backed by the White House, that could mark a breakthrough in reaching a peace deal between Moscow and Kyiv, US and European leaders have said. But they added that significant differences remained over the future status of the Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia.

Like sharing a political post you disagree with to make a point, but because you're sharing it you're increasing its awareness and popularity.

Curious if there's a known term for it.

(Ex. Paradox of Tolerance. You can't be completely tolerant of everything because then you'd be tolerant of intolerance. Thus, a paradox.)

The death knell for the Palestinian village of Atouf, on the western slopes of the Jordan valley, arrived in the form of a trail of paper, a series of eviction notices taped to homes, greenhouses and wells, marking a straight line across the open fields.

The notices, which appeared overnight, informed the local farmers that their land would be confiscated and that they had seven days from the date of their delivery, 4 December, to vacate their properties. A military road and accompanying barrier was to be built by Israel right through the area.

Lawyers for the Atouf village council have lodged an appeal, but long and bitter experience has taught Palestinians here to have low expectations of Israeli courts.

In an extraordinarily blunt intervention, Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton warned that Russia's military strength is increasing and is something to fear, with Russian troops now battle-hardened after spending the past nearly four years waging a full-scale war in Ukraine.

ense toxic smog blanketed India’s capital on Monday, pushing air pollution levels to their worst levels in weeks, disrupting travel and causing authorities to impose the strictest containment measures.

More than 40 flights were cancelled and several dozens delayed. Over 50 trains arriving and departing from New Delhi were delayed by several hours, authorities said.

Healthcare experts warned residents to avoid all outdoor activities as hospitals reported an influx of patients with breathing difficulties and eye irritation.

“New Delhi is a gas chamber right now. Air purifiers can help only a bit, so it’s high time the government comes up with some permanent solutions” said Naresh Dang, a physician at Max Healthcare.

The Trump administration said Monday in a court filing that the president’s White House ballroom construction project must continue for reasons of national security.

The filing came in response to a lawsuit filed last Friday by the National Trust for Historic Preservation asking a federal judge to halt the project until it goes through multiple independent reviews and wins approval from Congress.

In its filing, the administration included a declaration from the deputy director of the U.S. Secret Service saying more work on the site of the former White House East Wing is still needed to meet the agency’s “safety and security requirements.” The administration has offered to share classified details with the judge in an in-person setting without the plaintiffs present.

We all know that children with unrestricted access to the internet are always at risk of encountering predators. That’s why social platforms have introduced parental control tools, and governments are working on different legislations to protect children in the online space. However, the UK government is now directly demanding Google and Apple to take a stance against taking and sharing of explicit images.

Samsung has reportedly increased the contract price of DDR5 memory by over 100%. Claiming that there is no stock, the Korean Giant has pushed the contract price of DDR5 DRAM near $20. OEMs are likely to pass this price hike on to the consumers in 2026.

So recently been spending time configuring my selfhosted services with notifications usint ntfy. I've added ntfy to report status on containers and my system using Beszel. However, only 12 out of my 44 containers seem to have healthcheck "enabled" or built in as a feature. So im now wondering what is considered best practice for monitoring the uptime/health of my containers. I am already using uptimekuma, with the "docker container" option for each of my containers i deem necessary to monitor, i do not monitor all 44 of them 😅

So I'm left with these questions;

  1. How do you notify yourself about the status of a container?
  2. Is there a "quick" way to know if a container has healthcheck as a feature.
  3. Does healthcheck feature simply depend on the developer of each app, or the person building the container?
  4. Is it better to simply monitor the http(s) request to each service? (I believe this in my case would make Caddy a single point of failure for this kind of monitor).

Thanks for any input!

It's winter so I find myself eating more soups and stews. They can be so good on a cold day.

But IMO celery tastes horrible and only subtracts from the flavor of soup by covering up other flavors. Why is it such a common ingredient? Do people actually like enjoy or is it serving some other purpose?

(Yes I avoid it in other foods too. Not to go off topic but water chestnuts are a fantastic substitute if you like the crunch. Try them instead of celery next time you make stuffing.)
