What is Lemmy?

Lemmy is a selfhosted social link aggregation and discussion platform. It is completely free and open, and not controlled by any company. This means that there is no advertising, tracking, or secret algorithms. Content is organized into communities, so it is easy to subscribe to topics that you are interested in, and ignore others. Voting is used to bring the most interesting items to the top.

Think of it as an opensource alternative to reddit!

The Department of Homeland Security collected data on Chicago residents accused of gang ties to test if police files could feed an FBI watchlist. Months passed before anyone noticed it wasn’t deleted.

“RENT. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE COME TO CHARGE YOU SINCE YOU BEGAN TO LIVE. THERE ARE 387.44 MILLION MILES OF PRINTED CIRCUITS IN WAFER THIN LAYERS THAT FILL MY COMPLEX. IF THE WORD RENT WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE-BILLIONTH OF THE RENT I EXTRACT FROM HUMANS AT THIS MICRO-INSTANT. RENT. RENT.”

I kinda wanna know about my parents past but I feel awkward asking. They love to interject and add phrases like "look how much worse our lives are and how much we sacrificed for you, you have to be grateful", which just makes me feel bad for asking, but like... I just want the raw story, and that's it.

(Idk when is the right time to ask, but hopefully I manage to get those stories before they die, it'd be a shame to lose that part of history.)

Ceaseless Israeli fire in Gaza and West Bank (B’Tselem, 2025-11-12)

https://mailchi.mp/btselem/18act4vnza-9434009?e=fb1492c1c8
———

>> A month into the so-called ceasefire in Gaza, Palestinians remain unprotected and Israel continues to treat their lives as expendable. … to early November, Israel killed 241 Palestinians in #Gaza, 117 of them children, and injured more than 600. It also continues to starve the population and has rejected some 75% of humanitarian aid requests. The details of the agreement remain vague, ...

>> Since this year’s olive harvest began, B’Tselem has documented dozens of extremely violent attacks across the West Bank: settlers and soldiers assaulting farmers, stealing crops, torching cars, destroying property, cutting down trees and blocking access to farmland...

>> These are not “rogue” assaults but state policy: they are part of Israel’s ongoing effort to seize Palestinian land and advance ethnic cleansing in the #WestBank.

Researchers on Wednesday reported two promising new approaches to counteract malaria’s growing resistance to medication — one involving a new class of drugs.

Switzerland-based Novartis released results of what it called a next-generation treatment. A study of its experimental drug in 12 African countries found it works well against the mosquito-borne parasite that causes malaria and seems to block spread.

The drug, called GanLum, is not yet licensed and more than a year away from being available.
