Excerpt of the executive order https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2026/09/inaugurating-the-era-of-super-intelligence/ from last week:

The terminology used by the Federal Government should reflect the transformative capabilities of these technologies and the limitless opportunities they create for the American people. Accordingly, the term “Super Intelligence” more appropriately captures the promise, potential, and rapidly advancing capabilities of these technologies. It is therefore the policy of my Administration that, to the maximum extent permitted by law, the executive branch shall use the terms “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in place of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” and will not acknowledge the usage of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in any applicable setting.

Fuckhead is pushing this because he bought all those Slovenian domains.

It's ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE.

[–] SleeplessCityLights@programming.dev 2 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

I am all for calling LLMs Si. Ai is a shit term anyways when an LLM has no intelligence. As long as Machine Learning losses the Ai tag, I am cool with these idiots using Si.

[–] LogicalDrivel@sopuli.xyz 10 points 4 hours ago

I was already his enemy. Fuck you donny you pedo twat.

[–] Bwaz@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

Next he'll be renaming every third word in the dictionary. Only enemy terrorists will be in disagreement.

[–] DrPop@lemmy.world 8 points 4 hours ago

What dpes he mean by "highly accepted, ". He's the one who wrote the executive order changing the name. Is calling it AI makes me an enemy of the state then this wouldn't be the first time.

[–] weps@lemmy.world 4 points 3 hours ago

Someone should do some research about when and who bought all the .si domains from the first lady's country

[–] paraproto@szmer.info 3 points 3 hours ago

Don't get distracted. People should learn to not give irrelevant things any attention.

People have loved to accuse the government of 1984-like behavior since the book first came out, but for real, this is actual 1984 shit.

[–] mobyduck648@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

Yeah this is one of the few times you can call something Orwellian with a lot of accuracy.

A shame his name got associated with a particular kind of totalitarian dystopia in my opinion, as he was a pretty interesting character in general. He definitely put his money where his mouth was, going to Spain to fight fascism and getting shot and nearly killed for his troubles. The term only really came into use after he died (a few years after the book was published) but I can't help thinking he'd not have appreciated becoming a byword for the totalitarianism he spent his life opposing from the left. He certainly didn't appreciate the book being used in the US to denounce socialism!

[–] Glide@piefed.ca 25 points 6 hours ago (9 children)

Homie, you can't even convince me to call it "AI." It's an LLM, an algorithm that pumps out letters in the order that we've taught it to calculate to be most desirable.

Inevitable "well, ackshually": yes, I know there are a lot of legitimate non-LLM models out there, but that's not what the colloquial conversations are talking about, and importantly not what Trump is talking about, as he has no idea what he is talking about.

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 5 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (1 children)

"AI" doesn't just mean LLMs, same as "Italian food" doesn't mean spaghetti and "vehicle" doesn't mean school bus.

[–] justme@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

true, yet AI is still just the marketing name for Machine learning (ML).

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago

Absolutely wrong - The term Artificial Intelligence was coined by John McCarthy of Dartmouth in 1955. Machine Learning was coined 4 years later by Samuel something.

I am happy to be known as an enemy of that corrupt criminal asshole.

Did he really declare it if he didn't litteraly say he declared it?

[–] 100_kg_90_de_belin@thelemmy.club 19 points 8 hours ago

The purpose of Newspeak was not only to provide a medium of expression for the world-view and mental habits proper to the devotees of Ingsoc, but to make all other modes of thought impossible.

[–] LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 31 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Add it to the list of ‘reasons’ I would be considered an ‘enemy’

He literally cannot die fast enough.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 6 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

His death will probably be the most widely celebrated in human history. Hitler may have been worse, but I'm not sure people around the globe knew all the stories about him like they do this shitpile. Plus the population is much higher now. Alcohol sales will skyrocket to unimaginable levels. It's gonna be insane.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

Alcohol sales will skyrocket

I dunno about that one. A lot of people already have a special bottle reserved for that particular celebration.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

Sure, but we have no idea when this will happen so I'd guess it'll cause a spike. The DC area saw a big jump in champagne sales when he lost in 2020.

[–] Zer0_F0x@lemmy.world 59 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

It's a dog whistle strategy. They can't wear swastikas openly anymore (well, most of them), so they're using other means of identifying who's an ally or a dissident.

If you now start using SI instead of AI everyone knows you're a trump fan. If it becomes widespread enough, then the opposite also becomes true: Saying AI instead of SI is enough to mark you as unwanted, enemy of the party.

[–] bufalo1973@piefed.social 4 points 5 hours ago

I don't see the difference between "Super Idiocy" and "Absolute Idiocy".

[–] Miller@lemmy.world 106 points 11 hours ago (4 children)

This is mental illness and all the safeguards, rules and honourable intentions that are in place, still when it comes everyone looks the other way.

[–] Taco2112@lemmy.world 67 points 10 hours ago (3 children)

It’d be easy to chalk this up to mental illness but in my opinion, I see something more sinister.

It’s jargon which is typically made up by cult leaders to create an in group and out group. When a cult leader renames something, it’s essentially a loyalty test to see who will use it and who won’t.

[–] rayyy@piefed.social 5 points 6 hours ago

It can be both and more, but what is really troubling is that he has people who actually drink this insane cyanide Kool-Aid and force it onto all others.

Isn't this just a grift for his people who've been squatting on si domains? Can't remember where I first heard it. I'll try to find the source.

Edit: https://www.ibtimes.co.uk/trump-super-intelligence-si-domain-surge-claims-1822982

[–] cypherpunks@lemmy.ml 10 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

this BBC article "Trump's AI rebrand causes 'unprecedented' demand for Slovenian website names" notes that it was updated after publishing to stop implying that domain squatting is an illegitimate business 🤡
