It's the perfect gift. Because if you don't like it, you can fuck yourself!

[–] lobut@lemmy.ca 19 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Also, if you do like it too!

[–] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 5 days ago

Yeah, whether you like it or not you can go fuck yourself.

The only time I’ve been irked enough to make an account to comment directly on the article.

Save you a click: Starting the article with, “Looking for a kinky Christmas gift for your terminally online gay friend this year?” And then quoting Allen with,
“For me, toys can help you to better understand your body and learn what you like,” feels tone deaf and pretty disrespectful. You don’t have to be gay to like anal play, and to start the article with that statement is more likely to make those that are not gay, or maybe even questioning their sexuality feel shame. You could have simply left out “gay” from your sentence altogether and it would have been fine and still a reasonable statement to make, but by having “gay” as part of that sentence implies that if you’re not gay, sexual exploration is not for you- or even that if you do like anal play you must be gay. Please consider your word choices more carefully in the future.

I really don’t see a problem unless you equate being gay with being bad or undesirable in some way. Who’s reading an article about butt plugs and only feels shame in their interest when gay people are brought up?

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago

It doesn't have to be seen as bad for it to be undesirable. I'm straight, but I have plenty of gay friends and hold no ill-will towards any sexuality. I'm not trying to become gay though, so it isn't desired or, to use another word, it's undesirable.

I also don't really have any interest in buying a butt plug, at least for myself. Equating it as being gay makes it sound like it's something I shouldn't want, which there's no reason for that to be true. Even though I don't want it, there's no reason I shouldn't want it.

I believe she also wrote a song "You can't get pregnant if you do it in the bum bum" so this is no surprise.

When Allen released the physical copies of West End Girl earlier this January, she also encoded the album on a limited-edition USB embedded in a polka dot-adorned butt plug (it’s “intended for data storage only”).

You gotta admire the dedication to the kink here, its a bit cheeky too 😉 lol

British singer songwriter known for autobiographical story-telling songs in plain English, casual speech in a London accent (as opposed to flowery, metaphorical lyrics in a neutral accent).

She was married to David Harbour of Stranger Things fame and her latest album is about their divorce due to him being a sex addict and pushing unethical non-monogamy on her.

The story is relevant because one of the notable moments from the album is the description of a Duane Reed bag full of buttplugs she discovers when finding his secret sex apartment in New York (song: "Pussy Palace")

[–] bloviate@lemmus.org 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Why couldn't they all be his? He might need a fancy one, a casual one, different gauges, one that shoots fire, etc etc

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago

Well you should listen to the album - it explains how she was pressured by both Harbour and his other partners into it, and the amount of evidence of other partners in the Pussy Palace.

Bro, Lilli Allen is famous in Europe, something like Taylor Swift, but way way better.

Why is this an acceptable comment in 2026, especially on lemmy? We don't need this virtue signaling "I'm too fucking stupid to Google something" shit clogging the comments section up. Shout out to the kind souls that actually took the time to educate you though.

That's what I'm wondering

Looking for a kinky Christmas gift for your terminally online gay friend this year?

How is a buttplug kinky for a gay dude? Isn't butt stuff quite normal for gay dudes? And how is it kinky at all? Even for hetero people I wouldn't call that kinky.

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 22 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I think is definitely a sheltered view. I will say though, as a Christmas gift it scales higher on the kinky scale than an ugly sweater. You know, unless that's your kink ;)

[–] fratermus@piefed.social 6 points 5 days ago

TIL, an ugly sweater up the butt is vanilla in 2026

And then what? Start buying the BLUE shaving cream? Are you CRAZY?

[–] Squirrelanna@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Girls don't have butt holes. When trans women take estrogen our butt holes close up

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 days ago
[–] blargh513@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 days ago

I mean, one can't just assume that all gay dudes want butt stuff. I'm willing to bet it's popular, but everybody got their own thing.

[–] RodersTrotters@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

It explains a lot, she is a sister to Theon Greyjoy.

[–] glitchdx@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

Okay. Are they any good? Any reason to buy these instead of amazonian generics? What do they look like? I don't give two shits about the celebrity name I've never heard of before, you wanna advertise at me, tell me about the product.

[–] Cellery@quokk.au 16 points 5 days ago

Honestly surprised she didn’t do this sooner.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 14 points 5 days ago

Midway through the album on the song “Pussy Palace,” she enters Harbour’s apartment to find a “Duane Reade bag with the handles tied / Sex toys, butt plugs, lube inside.”

Okay

[–] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

Still waiting for Hans Neiman to release a line of vibrating anal beads 🙏

Good for her!

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

Plug is in the pie

Oh why oh why

Would I want to stick it anywhere else

[–] EisFrei@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Dear Lily, why are you being this silly?

[–] mobyduck648@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

That's a vintage reference!

[–] hardcoreufo@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

I guess she's gonna smile.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 days ago

I still sing "can't get pregnant in the bum bum" to myself

I take it that this Lily Allen person does designer goods.

searches

Apparently so:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lily_Allen

Karl Lagerfeld, the head designer for Chanel, personally hired and photographed Allen for a campaign to promote a luxury line of handbags due to launch in September 2009.[154][155] Allen and her sister opened their own clothing store, titled "Lucy in Disguise", on 15 September 2010.

I don't really think that butt plugs are a very good choice as a designer product, in most cases.

Designer clothing is probably going to generally be a Veblen good.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veblen_good

A Veblen good is a type of luxury good for which the demand increases as the price increases, in apparent contradiction of the law of demand, resulting in an upward-sloping demand curve. They are named after American economist Thorstein Veblen who described the contradiction.

The higher prices of Veblen goods may make them desirable as a status symbol in the practices of conspicuous consumption and conspicuous leisure. A product may be a Veblen good because it is a positional good, something few others can own.

The problem with sex toys as Veblen goods is that Veblen goods benefit from being high-visibility, and sex toys generally can't be high visibility. Like, you probably can't generally be walking around making it clear to as many people as possible that you have a particularly expensive object up your butt.

I'd think that for this sort of thing to be successful, you'd either have to be, oh, having the thing visible at some sort of event where sex toys are on display and you're aiming to score status points with the people there, or you'd have to alter social norms to the point that having butt plugs generally on display is a thing.

[–] fratermus@piefed.social 3 points 5 days ago

sex toys generally can’t be high visibility

I was thinking those fox tails were for furry purposes but maybe it's an economic function.

[–] AmidFuror@fedia.io 1 points 5 days ago

That's an awkward shape for one.
